چکیده

In C-arm computed tomography, the field of view (FOV) is often not sufficient to acquire certain anatomical structures, e.g. a full hip or thorax. Recently proposed methods to extend the FOV use a fixed detector displacement and a 360◦ scan range to double the radius of the FOV. These trajectories are designed for circular FOVs. However, there are cases in which the required FOV is not circular but rather an ellipsoid. In this work, we show that the use of a dynamically adjusting detector offset can reduce the required scan range when using a non-circular FOV. Furthermore, we present an algorithmic approach which determines the minimal required scan ranges for arbitrary FOVs given a certain detector size. Our results indicate a promising reduction of the necessary scan range especially for ellipsoidal objects. Additionally initial reconstruction results of our method yielded comparable results as when using a fixed detector offset with a full 360◦ rotation.

Artifact reduction techniques in Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) imaging modality

Introduction: Cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) was introduced and became more common based on its low cost, fast image procedure rate and low radiation dose compared to CT. This imaging modality improved diagnostic and treatment-planning procedures by providing three-dimensional information with greatly reduced level of radiation dose compared to 2D dental imaging modalitie...

Analysis of Vertical and Horizontal Circular C-Arm Trajectories

C-arm angiography systems offer great flexibility in the acquisition of trajectories for computed tomography. Theoretically, these systems are able to scan patients while standing in an upright position. This would allow novel insights into structural changes of the human anatomy while weight bearing. However, this would require a scan on a horizontal trajectory parallel to the ground floor whi...

Estimation of radiation dose to the lens of eyes of patients undergoing cranial computed tomography in a teaching Hospital in Osun state, Nigeria

Background: One of the means of assessing dose to patients from Computed tomography (CT) procedure is through the determination of the skin entrance dose (ESD) with the appreciation of the concern that ocular exposure effects from CT scan includes possible induction of cancer and cataract. Due to the relatively more recent introduction of CT scans, little work has been done in this area in the ...

A local shift-variant Fourier model and experimental validation of circular cone-beam computed tomography artifacts.

Large field of view cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) is being achieved using circular source and detector trajectories. These circular trajectories are known to collect insufficient data for accurate image reconstruction. Although various descriptions of the missing information exist, the manifestation of this lack of data in reconstructed images is generally nonintuitive. One model predict...

Self-calibration of cone-beam CT geometry using 3D-2D image registration: development and application to tasked-based imaging with a robotic C-arm

Robotic C-arms are capable of complex orbits that can increase field of view, reduce artifacts, improve image quality, and/or reduce dose; however, it can be challenging to obtain accurate, reproducible geometric calibration required for image reconstruction for such complex orbits. This work presents a method for geometric calibration for an arbitrary source-detector orbit by registering 2D pr...
